The Short Version

Redstrings is a local-first visual relationship mapping tool. You own your data, it stays on your computer, and you're responsible for backing it up. If you publish a project with Redstrings Share, it becomes public, and you're responsible for what it contains. Be a good human, don't abuse the software, and we'll get along just fine.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Redstrings ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Software.

These terms apply to the free version and Pro upgrade of Redstrings, and to Redstrings Share, the optional publishing service at share.redstrings.app.

2. License Grant

Subject to these terms, Solutions Cay grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Software for personal or commercial purposes.

You may:

  • Install and use the Software on devices you own or control
  • Create unlimited projects and content using the Software
  • Export your data at any time

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the Software
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
  • Use the Software for any unlawful purpose

3. Purchases and Payments

App Store Purchases

Redstrings Pro upgrades and add-ons are sold through the platform's official app store:

  • Windows: Microsoft Store
  • macOS: Apple App Store

All purchases are subject to the respective store's terms and refund policies. Solutions Cay does not directly process payments or store payment information.

Pro Features

The Pro upgrade unlocks additional features including themes, custom card types, custom relationship types, AI-powered analysis, project publishing with Redstrings Share, and an experimental MCP server for supported AI clients. Feature availability may vary and is subject to change with updates.

4. Your Data and Content

Local-First Architecture

Redstrings is designed as a local-first application. Your project files, including all cards, relationships, images, and notes, are stored locally on your device in.redstrings folders. We do not have access to your project files. We store a copy of a project only when you publish it with Redstrings Share.

Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:

  • Backing up your project files
  • The legality and appropriateness of your content
  • Any consequences of sharing your project files with others
  • Securing your device and data

No Warranty for Data

While we strive to build reliable software, we cannot guarantee against data loss. Software bugs, device failures, or other issues may result in lost or corrupted data. Always maintain backups of important projects.

5. AI Analysis Feature (Pro)

Redstrings Pro includes an optional AI analysis feature that uses Google's Gemini API with a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model.

Your Responsibilities

  • You must provide your own valid Gemini API key
  • You are responsible for any API usage charges from Google
  • You must comply with Google's Gemini API Terms of Service
  • You are responsible for the content you submit for AI analysis

AI-generated analysis is provided for informational purposes only. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI outputs. Do not rely on AI analysis for critical decisions without independent verification.

6. Redstrings Share

Redstrings Share lets Pro users publish a project to a public link onshare.redstrings.app. The service is optional.

Accounts

  • You sign in with an email address you control
  • Publishing requires a current Redstrings Pro purchase linked to your account
  • One Pro purchase links to one Share account
  • You are responsible for activity on your account

Published Content

A publication includes the whole project: every board, card, note, source, tag, link, saved report, image, and supported attachment. Anyone with the link can view and copy it. If you turn on Show in the public library orAllow search engines, more people can find it.

You keep ownership of what you publish. You give Solutions Cay a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, and display that content only to operate Redstrings Share, including the public library when you list a project. The license ends when you unpublish the project or delete your account, except for copies that others already made.

You must not publish content that:

  • You do not have the right to share
  • Exposes private information about other people without a lawful basis
  • Defames, harasses, or threatens anyone
  • Is illegal, sexually exploits minors, or promotes violence
  • Contains malware or tries to attack visitors or the service

Reports and Removal

Visitors can report a published project. We may review reported content, and we may disable or remove a publication, or suspend an account, that breaks these terms. We may do this without notice when the content is illegal or causes harm.

Limits and Availability

The service has size and rate limits, and we may change them. Redstrings Share is provided as is. We may change, pause, or end the service. If we end it, we will try to give notice on this website first. Published copies are not a backup. Keep your own project files.

Unpublishing and Account Deletion

You can unpublish a project from the app at any time. You can delete your account atshare.redstrings.app/delete-account, which also unpublishes all your projects. See thePrivacy Policy for what we keep.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Redstrings to:

  • Create, store, or distribute illegal content
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringe on intellectual property rights of others
  • Harass, defame, or harm others
  • Circumvent or disable any security features
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems

8. Intellectual Property

Redstrings, including its code, design, branding, and documentation, is owned by Solutions Cay and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You retain all rights to the content you create using Redstrings. We claim no ownership over your projects, notes, or any data you create.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Your use of the Software is at your sole risk.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SOLUTIONS CAY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Solutions Cay and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the Software or violation of these terms.

12. Updates and Changes

We may update the Software from time to time. Updates may add, modify, or remove features. While we'll try to maintain backwards compatibility, we cannot guarantee that all features will remain unchanged.

We may also update these Terms of Service. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these terms.

Upon termination, your license to use the Software ends, but your local data remains on your device and under your control. If we suspend your Redstrings Share account, we may also disable your publications.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in the United States.
