The Short Version

Redstrings is a local-first visual relationship mapping tool. You own your data, it stays on your computer, and you're responsible for backing it up. Be a good human, don't abuse the software, and we'll get along just fine.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Redstrings ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Software.

These terms apply to both the free version and Pro upgrade of Redstrings.

2. License Grant

Subject to these terms, Solutions Cay grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Software for personal or commercial purposes.

You may:

  • Install and use the Software on devices you own or control
  • Create unlimited projects and content using the Software
  • Export your data at any time

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the Software
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
  • Use the Software for any unlawful purpose

3. Purchases and Payments

App Store Purchases

Redstrings Pro upgrades and add-ons are sold through the platform's official app store:

  • Windows: Microsoft Store
  • macOS: Apple App Store

All purchases are subject to the respective store's terms and refund policies. Solutions Cay does not directly process payments or store payment information.

Pro Features

The Pro upgrade unlocks additional features including themes, custom node types, custom relationship types, and AI-powered analysis. Feature availability may vary and is subject to change with updates.

4. Your Data and Content

Local-First Architecture

Redstrings is designed as a local-first application. Your project files, including all nodes, relationships, images, and notes, are stored locally on your device in .redstrings folders. We do not have access to your data.

Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:

  • Backing up your project files
  • The legality and appropriateness of your content
  • Any consequences of sharing your project files with others
  • Securing your device and data

No Warranty for Data

While we strive to build reliable software, we cannot guarantee against data loss. Software bugs, device failures, or other issues may result in lost or corrupted data. Always maintain backups of important projects.

5. AI Analysis Feature (Pro)

Redstrings Pro includes an optional AI analysis feature that uses Google's Gemini API with a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model.

Your Responsibilities

  • You must provide your own valid Gemini API key
  • You are responsible for any API usage charges from Google
  • You must comply with Google's Gemini API Terms of Service
  • You are responsible for the content you submit for AI analysis

AI-generated analysis is provided for informational purposes only. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI outputs. Do not rely on AI analysis for critical decisions without independent verification.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Redstrings to:

  • Create, store, or distribute illegal content
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringe on intellectual property rights of others
  • Harass, defame, or harm others
  • Circumvent or disable any security features
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems

7. Intellectual Property

Redstrings, including its code, design, branding, and documentation, is owned by Solutions Cay and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You retain all rights to the content you create using Redstrings. We claim no ownership over your projects, notes, or any data you create.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Your use of the Software is at your sole risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SOLUTIONS CAY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Solutions Cay and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the Software or violation of these terms.

11. Updates and Changes

We may update the Software from time to time. Updates may add, modify, or remove features. While we'll try to maintain backwards compatibility, we cannot guarantee that all features will remain unchanged.

We may also update these Terms of Service. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these terms.

Upon termination, your license to use the Software ends, but your local data remains on your device and under your control.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in the United States.
